Turkey Parts (drumsticks and/or wings)

Debra Steppel

Ingredients

  • Turkey parts (any type, any quantity)

  • Raw yellow or white onion

  • Button mushrooms

  • Olive oil

  • Optional: white baking potatoes, sweet potatoes, or butternut squash

Mise en Place

  • Cut onion into rings.

  • Wash and slice mushrooms.

  • If making white potatoes at the same time, wash and dry them, carve an "X,"coat with olive oil and Kosher salt. Place in an oven-safe dish.

  • If making sweet potatoes at the same time, wash and dry them, then wrap chunks in foil and place in an oven-safe dish.

  • If making acorn or butternut squash, cut in half and remove the seeds and strings. Place flat-side down in an oven-safe dish.

Directions

  1. Oil all turkey parts using a pastry brush and place them in a glass baking dish.

  2. Season turkey parts with poultry seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and paprika on both sides.

  3. Add ¼" water to bottom of dish (prevents them from sticking to the dish).

  4. Top with sliced mushrooms and rings of onion.

  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 ½ to 1 ¾ hours (1 ¼ hours if only wings), basting every 30 minutes with water to keep moist and create pan juices. (Can add additional spicing when basting if the water washes it off.)

  6. Simultaneously you can bake potatoes and/or sweet potatoes and/or butternut or acorn squash. (Add them to the oven at the same time as the turkey parts.) For butternut or acorn squash, begin cooking flat-side down, and flip over halfway through cooking time. After flipping, can add butter into the "bowl" section where the seeds were removed.
