MomMom's Meatloaf

Note: Barbara Steppel's own classic recipe.


Ingredients

1.5 lbs. ground meat (Debra prefers 1 lb. ground turkey mixed with 1/2 lb. ground beef)

1/2 cup oatmeal (or matzah meal or breadcrumbs)

1 egg

garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste

4 oz mild cheese (American, cheddar, or Monterey Jack)

8oz can tomato sauce


Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. In a large bowl, combine meat, starch, egg, and spices. Mix well.

  3. Transfer into a glass loaf pan.

  4. Cover the meat with a layer of cheese.

  5. Pour the tomato sauce over the cheese to cover.

  6. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 1 hour.

  7. Serve over mashed potatoes with a side of green vegetable.
